My dear friend closed his eyes this morning
As his head rested in my lap.
The doctor said he might be in pain
It definitely was very hard for him to stand.
The thoughts that scurried through my head
As I sat on the floor and wrapped him in my arms,
Were of his younger years, his many charms,
And the many good times we shared.
There will be no more gentle nudges
There will be no more “I Love You” gazes;
Only a heart that’s filled with tears,
